“Art is remedy, poking and prodding the narcissism of censorship and the status quo of ‘ accepted’ thought.”
EDMUND’S first encounter with the arts occurred in the third grade as he watched and most importantly listened to the Henri Mancini theme song for the TV show “Peter Gunn”. His dream was born; to be able to play that sax solo and live his life as an artist . It was 1958 and the saxophone became Edmund’s artistic instrument, and Jazz was his passion through his collegiate years and beyond. After a hiatus for a career in Dentistry, during the mid 1980s, Grant taught himself to paint. Initially, his paintings centered on his musical inspiration but his imagery evolved and he emerged as a storyteller utilizing his improvisational skills to translate a visual asthetic . Presently, Edmund is an internationally collected, award winning visual artist who has been published in numerous catalogs, books and publications. His exhibitions spanning almost 30 years include shows in many major USA cities including San Francisco, Los Angeles, Miami, Dallas and New York, and Internationally -- Milan, London, Monte Carlo, Venice, Tel Aviv and Paris. He has participated in many prestigious Art fairs including The LA Art Show, Art Aspen, Art Monaco and Concept Art Fair-Miami during Art Basel. The Leonardo Award, First Prize in painting, the top honor at the international Biennale of Chianciano 2015 is among his many honors. “Hauntingly compelling narrative paintings (which) are psychologically edgy and expressionistic” remarked Robert P. Metzger PhD. art historian and past Director Emeritus of the Reading Museum of Pennsylvania while world renowned art historian and art critic Edward Lucie-Smith calls Edmund a “ powerfully original visual artist “.
